Braving the Summer Heat of Haiti

July 5, 2017

We are so excited to be welcoming a few groups to Haiti this month to work on various projects in and around the mission!

We actually have three teams visiting this month, but we’ll talk about the third team at a little later date. Right now, I would like to share with you some of the great things happening these next couple of weeks.

Tomorrow, Anna Heights Baptist Church will be arriving with a team of 6 from Anna, Illinois.  This group includes one of IYFM board members, Paul Gibson and hoping he will gain valuable insight to help with future planning for the mission.  Paul said that the people on this team were inspired to visit after Tom came to speak at their church just a few months ago.

This team will be spending a lot of their time doing training and discipleship with the church leaders and IYFM staff.  They will be teaching Bible Study techniques and personal growth in the Lord.  We are hoping to gain a lot of insight and revival of the spirit.

Anna Heights Baptist Church team will also be helping with several Points of Action while they are here including our new Prison Ministry, Clean Water Program, Kids Church and Village Help and will be working with our team and the other visiting team on some work projects at the mission.

Then on July 16, we have another board member coming down with her team of 13 students from Bishop Luers High School, French Club in Ft Wayne, Indiana.  These kids have been writing grants and raising funds to work here with the Haitian people on several projects.  The Points of Action they will be working with the most on this trip are Tom’s House, The Rock, Clean Water, Goat Program, Village Help and Education Programs and they will also be helping a local orphanage with some projects.  This school group first visited in 2015 and hopes to come back every 2 years.

On a special note, Josie Burton, a 2016 Bishop Luers graduate, is returning to Haiti with her former school and will be scouting out locations for an alternative energy project in Haiti. Josie won $20,000 in a Creative Capitalism contest at Earlham College where she currently attends.  She has already selected one location for her project and will be looking at IYFM as a possible second location if we meet the necessary criteria.  Fingers crossed!

If you’d like to follow the school’s mission project blog you can find it at https://blhshaiti2017.blogspot.com/

Both of these groups will also be helping with some photography that is needed for our website and of course we will be sharing some of those photos here on Facebook and also on Twitter!

Hope you will take a moment to offer these teams a little encouragement by liking this post or commenting.
